TITLE: E-Learning Librarian
UNIT: Reference and Library Instruction Unit

REPORTS TO: Reference and Library Instruction (RLI) Unit Leader
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to support a thriving campus learning environment by enhancing library instructional services. The E-Learning Librarian will apply a well-developed understanding of current research on teaching and learning within a higher education environment to the design, creation, and use of online instructional materials, tutorials, and other digital learning objects. S/he will serve as a resource for librarians providing library instruction. The anticipated outcome will be students better prepared for lifelong tasks of finding, evaluating, and utilizing information. The incumbent will also provide other instruction and reference services for library clients; serve as a liaison to one or more assigned academic units; and participate in collection development for those assigned units. The incumbent will be expected to be an active participant in campus discussions related to services to undergraduates, educational technologies, and information literacy. This is an academic professional position with faculty status.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs and creates online instructional materials, tutorials, and other digital learning objects
- Serves as a consultant to librarians developing digital learning objects
- Provides reference and research assistance for clients (including scheduled night and weekend work)
- Serves as a liaison to assigned academic units
- Participates in collection development for assigned academic units
- Provides instruction on research methods and use of library resources
- Represents Baylor at regional and national conferences and meetings
- Meets University expectations for scholarship and service
- Serves on library and University committees as appointed or elected.
REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program
- Experience with web development applications and scripting languages, such as Dreamweaver, Flash, JavaScript, and PHP
- Familiarity with the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy
- Demonstrated understanding of current research on teaching and learning in higher education
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively in an academic setting
- Demonstrated skill using reference resources
DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Academic library work experience
- Demonstrated skill in the development of digital learning objects
- Experience in a reference or other library public service setting
- Demonstrated skill training clients on library applications or other technologies
- Experience with supporting faculty in the use of a course management system
