E-Learning:

Chat Reference:

  • Monitor the chat service, troubleshoot problems
  • Compiled statistics from and provided quality control of the chat transcripts
  • Set up and launched SMS reference (Txt a Librarian) using Google Voice and Libraryh3lp
  • Consulted with Libraryh3lp creators at UNC to suggest areas for new development of the software

Instruction:

  • Taught 52 library instruction classes with 789 participants. Academic classes taught include English 1304, German 3301, Spanish 2310, 3305 and 5302, French 4331, MFL 3V99, FYS 1399, BIC 1323 and 2330, HIS 1307, Chemistry 3238, Psychology 2405 and 5325, FCS 1300, and Music 5320.
  • Zotero workshops – 7 of the above classes were workshops on the citation management program Zotero, for both students and faculty.
  • Using Technology workshops – Taught 6-week EDP 1101 course in the Fall 2008 semester called “Using Technology for Personal and Academic Productivity” to 8 students. Reconfigured class into well-recieved 2-hour workshop for graduate students, offered 4 times in the Fall 2009 semester.
  • Taught two workshops “7 Things You Should Know About RSS” as a part of the Electronic Library’s Educause 7-Things series.
  • Taught a section of the Honors Colloquium

Reference services:

  • Staffed the information desk approximately 6-8 hours a week
  • Participated in the Librarians on the Loose outreach providing reference services in buildings around campus
  • Met with or emailed numerous individual undergraduates to help them find resources for specific research papers
  • Met with first year Spanish master’s students to help plan their courses of research

Collection Development:

  • Consultant for Modern Foreign Languages and Family and Consumer Sciences departments
  • Selected books and electronic resources for MFL & FCS
  • Met with new incoming chair of MFL to discuss priorities for MFL collection development
  • Helped 5 new faculty (3 in MFL and 2 in FCS) select resources with their startup funds
  • Prepared library statements for 16 new courses in FCS (for the Nutrition, Child & Family Studies and Interior Design departments) & 3 new courses in MFL (Arabic and Italian departments) and two new majors (Arabic and Chinese) being proposed to the Curriculum Committee.

Other Initiatives:

  • Helped plan the 2008 New Faculty Reception (with Jennifer Borderud, Allison Yanos and Amanda Harlan)
  • Collaborated with Greg Hamerly (CS department) and his CSI 5325 class (Intro to Machine Learning) to provide data and transcripts from our chat reference program for the class final project in machine readable computing.
  • Collaborated with a subcommittee of the LWAC (Kathy Weber, Sharon Peterson, Carl Flynn and Lance Grigsby) to redesign and overhaul the library’s website homepage and template.
  • Leading a taskforce to redesign and reorganize the Electronic Resources Database to make it more accessible to students.
