Hi Linda,

Thanks for your kind words!

My husband used a compound mitre saw, but he says any kind of a chop saw or compound mitre saw would do - where the saw itself is on an arm - not a hand-held power saw, it could skip around and could be dangerous. And wear eye-protection, the little bits of bamboo went flying everywhere.

He had the shade rolled up to cut the ends. He used a 10 inch blade, but said a 12 inch blade would have been better for us - we had a 84 inch long shade, so it was pretty thick all rolled up. So it may depend on how long your shades are.

What a special place for a special little boy! Love the fabrics and color combination.

And can I ask ... what did you use to cut the Home Depot bamboo shades to size? I'm having a similar issue ...

:)

I clicked on your comment on YHL and have been browsing your site. Such nice stuff! I was surprised to see the toilet tank sink, however! I thought they were unique to Japan (we have two in our house). Nice way to save space, and water.
P.S. Love the nursery!!

Looks great Ellen. I agree, your wide entrance is very welcoming. Post some pics when it blooms. I'd never heard of skullcap, so looked it up- said it is a medicinal plant that treats insomnia. Maybe you can sleep on your sidewalk in a dire emergency.

If you need a border to keep the soil in, we've used a rubberized kind that's worked great.

Looks wonderful. The skullcap isn't the only thing that has grown in a year. I wonder what a little guerrilla pruning would do to the teenager's "skullcap"? :):)

I love it as a photo backdrop, that's brilliant. and although I love the idea of a chalkboard door, you might regret it in future. Speaking from experience, I created chalkboard doors on the cabinet doors in the computer room and it makes a MESS. be forewarned. kids don't just draw with the chalk, they like to create chalk dust. as much as humanely possible. yuck.
